Four-Track Skiing

Four-track skiers use two full-size skis and two hand-held outriggers giving them four points of contact on the snow. The outriggers have short ski tips at the end creating four tracks in the snow behind the skier.  As it is with the single outrigger for three-track skiers, the four-track outriggers are used for balance and turn initiation.

Four-tracking is for individuals with disabilities of the lower extremities. This may include individuals with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis or those who have lower extremity amputations. Almost anyone who walks with canes or crutches can ski four-track.

All lessons include lift ticket, equipment, and private instruction with a minimum of two instructors. We have a staff of over 100 highly trained volunteer instructors. Over two-thirds of these are certified by the Professional Ski Instructors of America or the American Association of Snowboard Instructors.

The Wintergreen Adaptive Sports skiing and snowboarding program makes it possible for anyone to feel the wind in their face and the thrill of a speedy ride down the slopes. Our focus is on safety, fun, and learning, and our goal is for you to attain independence as an adaptive skier or snowboarder. Our snow sports program operates seven days a week from mid-December through mid-March, with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.
