Volunteer Opportunities at Wintergreen Adaptive Sports

Ski Instructors

Our diverse all-volunteer staff of ski and snowboard instructors are the base of the winter program at Wintergreen Adaptive Sports, providing outdoor sports and recreational opportunities for persons with disabilities. We teach all ages and work with persons with all types of disabilities.

Our instructor-to-student ratio is a minimum of one-to-one, though we normally have assistant instructors on most lessons (including our unique WAS junior instructors), who assist and apprentice with our senior certified instructors.

First-year instructors are not assigned the lead instructor position on a beginner lesson. Instructors work with students to teach alpine snow sports or improve skills, always adhering to our guiding standards and priorities of Safety, Fun and Learning.

Men and women who are intermediate and advanced skiers or snowboarders and would enjoy sharing what they know with our appreciative students are encouraged to join our proven and trusted instruction program.

New volunteers start by attending three days of pre-season training which is followed by nine days of guided volunteer work. WAS also encourages (and subsidizes) recognized instructor certification. Over a hundred WAS snow sports instructors have been certified by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) or the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). Interested? Summer Instructors

WAS has a popular water sports program. Learn more about it HERE.

Volunteer instructors are needed seven-days-a-week in the winter, with mid-week volunteers particularly helpful. Learn more by calling 434-325-2007 or email info@skiwas.org.

Junior instructors are a major part of the WAS winter program. Learn more about this unique program HERE.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports depends on volunteer support off the snow and water as well.  We use volunteers to help with marketing, website, data entry, upkeep, and fundraising.  Extra hands are often needed for events such as the Warrior Weekends in January and August, the Wounded Veteran Golf Tournament, the WAS 5k Run, and the Mardi Gras Celebration. Interested? Great! Email us at info@skiwas.org or call 434-325-2007.
